This morning began with an early morning drive on a hilly, curvy rural road on the edge of Kansas City near my home.  Olive and I got up early, headed to McDonald’s for a Sausage Egg McMuffin (no, giving up my McMuffins was not a New Year’s resolution), then took our drive.  I hate the cold and don’t usually venture out unless I need to in these winter months, but this morning I just had to keep going.  After the snow fell a thick fog formed over the landscape and the effect was just beautiful.  I see the horses pictured here often in the summertime, but seeing them today, in this setting, was like getting a glimpse into some magical dimension.  I pulled over, stepped into the road, and just stood there looking on in the quiet of the morning.  And it was unbelievably quiet;  there was no sound at all–except for Olive’s muffled barks from inside the car.

It was a lovely little adventure.

Lesson learned:  don’t hibernate and wait for spring from under the covers.  Live.
