The scan of this card fails to do it justice.  This is a beautiful card.  The gold in the background has a slight shimmer to it.  What amazes me about cards like this is how beautifully preserved they are.  The front is near-mint, as if you could run over to the Target and buy one today.  The postmark is our reminder that this card is over 100 years old, and the people referenced on it–and everyone they ever knew–have been dead for a long time.  Why do so many of these old cards exist?  I think it is because they were treasured and kept for a life time.  It was only after the recipients died (in this case Mrs. Howard, whoever she was), that they made their way into the marketplace.  That’s why I treat them like little treasures, too.
