Vintage Greetings
Sit down with a stack of old postcards, browse through them one at a time, and you’ll catch glimpses of lives lived long ago through intimate messages scribbled from one friend to another. I love reading these messages. It was the graphics, though, that first drew me to vintage card collecting. I’ve had a fascination with graphics and design all my life. The illustrations on vintage cards are just…different than those we see today. There’s romance in them that I can’t resist!

Featured Card
Subject: Playful kittens
Type: Greeting card
Postmark: Osceola, Iowa (1909)
Message: “Dear Friend Vere: – Thank you very much for the walnuts. I just made some candy and put some of the nuts in it and it tastes very good. Your teacher.”
I cropped out of this image what is probably the best part of this card: an additional handwritten note: “These are the kittens that got into the soft soap.” Intriguing! It’s a shame we’ll never know the backstory.
